Research
Some people with lupus may be interested in participating in clinical research trials to improve the understanding of lupus and possible treatments. Others may choose to volunteer in other ways by giving their support as a community partner or by sharing their story with others affected by lupus. While participation in research trials may not directly benefit the person participating, it benefits the community affected by lupus by furthering the knowledge about the disease and its treatments.
Advocacy
Congress sets laws about funding for lupus research. People with lupus and those that support them can become involved in advocacy groups to tell congress to prioritize funding to find a cure for lupus.
